Sapphire Pointe Community

As a step to ensure the community’s safety during extremely dry weather conditions, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue has officially canceled the Town’s Fourth of July fireworks show.

The plan was to shoot fireworks from Santa Fe Quarry Mesa, but fire dangers have continued to increase, so officials decided to call off the show. With the community currently in Stage 1 fire restrictions, conditions are not expected to improve before the holiday and could likely worsen.

While under the current Stage 1 fire restrictions, the sale of fireworks is permitted. However, the use of fireworks is not. As of now, it is not legal to discharge fireworks within the Town on the Fourth of July, or any other day. In the unlikely event conditions improve, and Stage 1 restrictions are lifted, it would be legal to discharge fireworks only on July 4. That said, conditions could also shift the other way toward Stage 2 restrictions.

If the Town moves toward Stage 2 restrictions the sale and use of fireworks would be prohibited. Additionally, all professional fireworks displays – public and private – would not be allowed.

Since significant rain is not expected before the holiday, the cancellation of the Town’s fireworks show is being done proactively as a precautionary measure. A fireworks display will be rescheduled for a time when fire dangers are not as high and restrictions have been lifted. Stay tuned for details.
